Our partnership with South32 Rottnest Channel Swim

The Rottnest Foundation are proud to be an affiliated charity of South32 Rottnest Channel Swim.

Despite the disappointment of having to cancel the Channel Swim over the weekend due to inclement weather, we want to congratulate South32 Rottnest Channel Swim on acting in the best interest of all participants and putting safety first.

Our own Sally Hollis was swimming on the day and she said of the event; “The challenge and excitement of open water swimming is the unpredictability of the elements on the day. This is only the second time in its 34-year history that the Rottnest Channel Swim has had to be cancelled due to poor weather conditions. The Channel Swim is an iconic West Australian event. I’ll certainly be back in the water next year for another crossing. It’s an amazing sense of achievement, that you get to share with friends and family, when you swim to your favourite island.”

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank South32 Rottnest Channel Swim for their continued support of the Rottnest Foundation as a fundraising partner, offering participants the option to nominate the Foundation as their selected charity on registration.  To date our partnership with South32 Rottnest Channel Swim has raised over $10,000. The funds raised are invaluable in helping deliver projects that ‘Conserve the essence of Wadjemup.’ Such as the important Woodlands Restoration and Expansion project that enables tree planting to provide food, habitat and wildlife corridors for the islands protected quokkas, birds, frogs and reptiles.
