Queen’s Jubilee Commemorative Tree Planting Project

Rottnest Island's key volunteer groups came together to plant #melaleuca and #callitrispreisii trees🌳 as part of the Rottnest Island Queen’s Jubilee Commemorative Tree Planting Project.

Planting Trees for The Queen's Jubilee program is to mark the significant occasion of Her Majesty's Jubilee through community tree planting events across Australia.

The Rottnest Foundation, with support from the Rottnest Island Authority, were successful grant recipients through the Fremantle electorate and support of MP Josh Wilson.

The Rottnest Island Queen’s Jubilee Commemorative Tree Planting Project includes the planting of 5 semi-mature Melaleuca lanceolata and 5 semi-mature Callitris preissii to provide protection from the weather, shade, habitat for fauna, and improve the presentation upon entry to the Bickley Battery Ngank Yira Bidi walk trail behind the Kingstown Barracks heritage site and accommodation.

The ten trees, were grown at the Rottnest Island conservation centre nursery, managed by the Rottnest Island Environmental Team. The Nursery propagate plants with island provenance for the revegetation program and in remediating beach access.

Planting was undertaken by representatives of the volunteer organisations on the Island and overseen by RIA Environmental Team. Thanks to Rottnest Volunteer Guides Association, Winnits, Birdlife WA, and Rottnest Society.
