Members planting day a success

On 4 July we held our first Member Volunteer Day for 2026.  We were joined by 39 dedicated volunteers to plant seedlings to the south of Wadjemup Lighthouse.

The experienced RIA Environmental Team led us on the day, giving comprehensive planting demonstrations and plenty of fascinating insights into the Woodlands Restoration initiative. It was interesting to learn about the addition of new plant varieties to the mix, in an effort to create a thriving undergrowth between the newly planted trees.

Working hard through the day, our enthusiastic member volunteers co-ordinated brilliantly to plant 1,355 seedlings, each with a tree guard, to save them from being munched too early by quokkas! Results like these are vital to our goal of revegetating 53ha of Rottnest Island’s pine and tea tree habitats through our Woodlands and Coastal Restoration Project.

Membership and volunteering are at the heart of the Foundation’s activities on Wadjemup. Creating an opportunity not only to conserve the island, but also to build a community of passionate members, keen to give back.

We have one more member planting day scheduled for 1 August plus a Sea Spurge removal day on 14 November.  If you would like to register your interest, email us at info@rottnestfoundation.org.au
