Containers for Change - Stage 2 Update

At the end of 2025 the Rottnest Foundation launched Stage 2 of our Containers for Change initiative. 

New bins were delivered to The Lodge Wadjemup, Pelicans, The Lane, Simmos, Havza, Rottnest Island Movies and Mini Golf, Lexi’s and Kalli’s to coincide with the busy summer period.   

It’s taken a more considered and slightly longer approach; however, we are pleased to see that Discovery Resorts – Rottnest Island has now received their bins and will be trialling the inclusion of bins in rooms as well as common spaces. 

To date, the Rottnest Foundation in partnership with WARRRL, Programmed, WA Scouts and Rottnest Fast Ferries have been responsible for removing over 135,000 containers from Rottnest Island and diverted them from landfill.  

As we progress through the year, we will be working towards Stage 3 of the Containers for Change initiative, in which we hope to bring more island businesses on board and manage the challenging but exciting introduction of glass bottle recycling.
