A thriving 2026 planting season
It's spring and the winter planting season on Wadjemup is now complete for 2026. We are happy to report that it has been a wonderfully successful year, and we are working steadily towards our goal of revegetating 53ha of Rottnest Island’s Woodland environments.
The numbers speak for themselves:
5 Volunteer days
140 Volunteers
4,000 Seedlings planted
We have been incredibly fortunate with the weather this season, with each of our volunteer planting days providing perfect weather for planting, with almost all days followed closely by much needed wet weather to help establish those seedlings.
The weather conditions, plus the Rottnest Island Environment team’s extensive experience in planting on Wadjemup, including the use of island-propagated seedlings, native plant fertiliser pellets and individual tree guards, have meant that seedling survival rates have increased to an impressive 70–90%.
We'd like to send out a huge thank you, to the RIA Environment Team, the Rottnest Nursery and of course our passionate volunteers without whom we couldn't achieve any of this.
Although the planting season on Wadjemup is finishing, we still have one more exciting volunteering opportunity available. Join the Rottnest Foundation on Saturday, 14 November for our Sea Spurge Removal and Beach Clean Up Day. We’d love to see you there! Register now!
