Rottnest Plant Nursery Upgrades
In 2022 HBF Health partnered with the Rottnest Foundation, pledging $150,000 towards upgrades to the Rottnest Plant Nursery.
The 2022 agreement with HBF Health was the culmination of years of corporate volunteering. Their donation was focused on:
Improvements to seed propagation systems
The establishment of a new grow-out area for semi-mature trees
The creation of additional storage space for a seed bank and tree planting equipment
In 2024, the installation of a new reticulation system was completed. The system services up to 30,000 plants annually, and will improve water efficiency, increase water storage and increase water recycling. The new water reticulation system will also improve remote oversite of the nursery and enable the system to be remotely accessed when required.
As the Nursery is responsible for seed collection, treatment, storage, and propagation of seedlings native to the island, and supplying them for revegetation initiatives, this upgrade was crucial for the continuation of the Rottnest Foundation’s Woodlands Restoration and Expansion project.
