Reconciliation and Aboriginal Tourism Action Plan
Following National Reconciliation Week, the Rottnest Foundation was proud to be represented at three significant events. Our CEO, Sally Hollis attended the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast, hosted by the Rottnest Island Authority, and was also present at the official launch of the JINA at the 2026 Perth Airport WA Tourism Conference, while Board Member Simon Williams attended the launch of RIA’s new Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2026-2029.
The RIA’s stretch RAP includes more than 100 items and reflects their ongoing commitment to embedding reconciliation across their organisation. It calls on everyone to play a role in fostering a culturally safe, inclusive and respectful environment. It also demonstrates RIA’s commitment to delivering on meaningful and measurable outcomes that honour the cultural significance of Wadjemup and support the aspirations of Aboriginal peoples
The timing aligns with the WA Government’s launch of JINA: Western Australian Aboriginal Tourism Action Plan 2026-2030. For Rottnest Island, this Action Plan speaks to the work already underway on the Wadjemup Project. Wadjemup’s history of Aboriginal incarceration demands honest, respectful acknowledgement, and the Jina Plan’s emphasis on authentic, community-guided experiences is exactly the kind of commitment that supports that vision. As the Wadjemup Project moves into Stage 3, which will shape the future use of the Quod, this plan offers a timely and meaningful framework.
Together these initiatives commit to elevating Wadjemup’s cultural significance, supporting healing, and deepening shared understanding of the island’s history, a direction the Rottnest Foundation is proud to support as part of our mission to conserve Wadjemup’s unique culture.
