Conservation Plans
The Rottnest Foundation partnered with Lotterywest to commission a Conservation Plan for the historically significant WWII Battery Observation Post at Signal Ridge, Wadjemup Hill.
The WWII Battery Observation Post at Signal Ridge, Wadjemup Hill is an iconic heritage building on Rottnest Island, sitting adjacent to the Wadjemup Lighthouse. Built in 1938 the structure was an important part of the Coastal Defence System for Fremantle during the Second World War. It housed instruments to measure and relay target information to the Oliver Hill guns and other batteries in the nearby area.
In 2001 the Rottnest Foundation received a grant from Lotterywest to develop a Conservation Plan for the refurbishment of the Battery Observation Post to ensure this significant heritage site is safeguarded for future generations.
