ROTTNEST - OCT 2015 114 ROTTNEST - OCT 2015 118Newly opened to the public, this new Seal Viewing Platform provides a new iconic wildlife nature-based tourism experience for the Island.

In 2012, the Rottnest Foundation through a successful $15,000 Lotterywest Planning Grant, were able to pay for the Engineering Fees associated with designing this Platform.

The construction of the Platform itself was co-funded by the Australian Government working in partnership with the Rottnest Island Authority,  using a $100,000 Tourism Quality Projects (TQUAL) Grant.

The seals are easy to view from the platform, however, the set of free-to-use binoculars provides a finishing touch to the site and aids visitors to view the seals magnified to provide an even better experience.

ROTTNEST - OCT 2015 116There is now a 1km walking trail linking the Cathedral Rocks Seal Viewing Platform to the West End Boardwalk which is located at the most westerly point of the Island. A bus stop has been added to the Island Explorer bus route that drops visitors off near the Cathedral Rocks site.

Visitors can visit the seals and then walk 1km to the West End Boardwalk to enjoy the magnificent views from this vantage point and then get back on the bus.
