Rottnest Foundation – Recipient of a Westpac Foundation Community Grant

Rottnest Foundation are pleased to announce that we have been successful in receiving a $10,000 Westpac Foundation Community Grant. This grant will support costs associated with facilitating Aboriginal consultation for the design of the Wadjemup Aboriginal Burial Ground project. A big thank you from our Foundation to Westpac for supporting this significant cultural project.

Rottnest Carnivale 2017

Rottnest Island Carnivale held on the 28 October 2017 was a full day and night of festivities.The event was proudly sponsored by the Rottnest Island Authority, Rottnest Express and Rottnest Fast Ferries. Funds raised on the day were donated to the Telethon Kids Institute. Rottnest Foundation members manned our tent in the Quokka Zone located on the grassed area in front of the Dome between 10am-4pm and spoke to visitors about our current projects. We sold Rottnest Raffle tickets, Rottnest Foundation 2018 Calendars and promoted the Margaret River Chocolate Company Chokka the Quokka fundraising initiative. Rottnest Foundation AGM – 16 October 2017

Rottnest Foundation members caught a ferry over to the Island for the official AGM which was held in the Rottnest Executive Office. After the meeting we had lunch together at the new Thomsons Café (previously Aristos). Post lunch we attended a guided tour of the Thomson Bay Settlement area with our guide, Ellis Griffiths Vice President of the Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association. We had just enough time to grab a bevvy at Hotel Rottnest before boarding the ferry back home. FACET Conference 2017 – Presentation by Rottnest Foundation & BHP

Some 350 people from around the State, Country and as far as Papua New Guinea visited Government House, many for the first time, to attend FACET’s (Forum Advocating Cultural and Eco-Tourism) 2017 tourism conference, theme ‘Celebrating our Parks’, held from 9-11 October. The program was a celebration of WA’s unique and extraordinary landscapes and showcased new initiatives and programs and explored opportunities for business, community and visitors to connect and engage with our parks. Rottnest Foundation and our major partner BHP were invited to co-present at the Conference on Tuesday 10 October 2017. Jeff King Rottnest Foundation Chairman, Rosalie Small Rottnest Foundation Grants & Sponsorship Coordinator and David Bunting Manager Social Investment Minerals Australia BHP, created and delivered a joint presentation titled ‘Philosophy and Parks’. It focused on the partnership between our organisations and the outputs and outcomes delivered on-ground on Rottnest Island’s Wadjemup Bidi (walking trail) project from the support provided by BHP.
