Wadjemup Aboriginal Reference Group – Second Meeting – 28 May 2017

The Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) has recently appointed a Wadjemup Aboriginal Reference Group (WARG) who will be actively engaged with Aboriginal Heritage projects on Rottnest Island and will play an important role in providing cultural advice and guidance for the appropriate conservation of the Wadjemup Aboriginal Burial Ground. The WARG’s inaugural meeting was held on Thursday 10th March 2017.

The WARG’s second meeting was held on Sunday 28 May  2017, to coincide with National Reconciliation Week. Rottnest Foundation Staff Member Rosalie Small attended this meeting, as the main focus of discussion was Phase 2 of the Aboriginal Burial Ground project and getting the WARG’s advice on the Rottnest Foundation tender document which is being written specifically to progress Phase 2.

Rottnest Foundation has been successful in receiving a Lotterywest Community Spaces Grant of $500,440 which will contribute towards the conservation of the Aboriginal Burial Ground.
