The Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) has recently appointed a Wadjemup Aboriginal Reference Group (WARG) who will be actively engaged with Aboriginal Heritage projects on Rottnest Island and will play an important role in providing cultural advice and guidance for the appropriate conservation of the Wadjemup Aboriginal Burial Ground.

WARG Members are Barbara Bynder, Brendan Moore, Lindsay Dean, Pamela Thorley and Walter McGuire.

A welcome dinner was held for members of the WARG on Thursday 9th of May 2017, hosted by the RIA. Rosie (Rottnest Foundation Grants & Sponsorship Coordinator) attended this dinner and was also invited to formally present to the WARG at their first meeting on Thursday 10th March regarding Rottnest Foundation’s connection and involvement with the Aboriginal Burial Ground project and partnership with Lotterywest.

Rottnest Foundation has been successful in receiving a Lotterywest Community Spaces Grant of $500,440 which will contribute towards the conservation of the Aboriginal Burial Ground.
