Volunteer Breakfast 2016

Once a year, the Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) hosts a breakfast on the Island to thank all the volunteers who support Rottnest projects. This year, a delicious buffet breakfast was held at Aristos on Saturday 19th of November and nine Rottnest Foundation members attended. A ‘Welcome to Country’ was conducted by Barry McGuire. Suzanne Perry (Acting RIA Chief Executive Officer) was the MC and John Driscoll (RIA Chairman) conducted the main speech. It is truly amazing to see how many community groups are connected to Rottnest Island. Thank you to all the volunteers who work together to conserve our precious Island, thank you to the RIA for organising and funding the event, and thank you to Aristos for providing a beautiful venue and amazing food....

Premier Awards Ceremony 2016

The 2016 Premier Awards were announced at a private ceremony held at the Office of the Premier & Cabinet, Parliament Place on Wednesday 2nd of November. Representing the Rottnest Island ‘Wadjemup Bidi’ project, was Jeff King and Rosalie Small from the Rottnest Foundation, and Holly Knight, Eilidh Graham and Clinton Hull from the Rottnest Island Authority (RIA). Unfortunately the Wadjemup Bidi project did not take out winning place in the ‘Managing the Environment’ category, and although disappointed, we felt very proud that the project had made it through to the finals, which would not have been possible without the support of all the community groups who collaborate with our Foundation and the RIA to implement and maintain the trail. Namely- Rottnest Society, Rottnest Voluntary Guides Association, Rottnest Nursery Volunteers, Winnit Club and Conservation Volunteers. Congratulations to the worthy joint winners of the ‘Managing the Environment’ category> ‘City of Bayswater for the Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary Nutrient Stripping Wetland Project’; and the ‘Department of Parks & Wildlife- Western Shield Project’. For information on all winners and finalists of the 7 categories please download the Premier’s Awards 2016 Booklet premiers-awards-booklet-2016      ...

Rottnest Carnivale 2016

Rottnest Carnivale was held on Saturday 29th of October this year. Rottnest Foundation had an information tent set up on the lawn in front of the DOME and also had another trestle table set up outside the General Store in the Settlement. Thanks to Courtney and Trish Wheatley, Pauline McMullan and Rosalie Small for manning the morning shift and to the ‘King’ family (Jeff, Heather and Sam) and John Smoker for manning the afternoon shift. We sold Rottnest Raffle Tickets, Rottnest Foundation 2017 Calendars and Rottnest Foundation merchandise (wide brimmed hats, tote bags and caps). We raised $817.50 on the day, which will go towards our Island environmental, cultural and heritage projects. We also promoted the Margaret River Chocolate Company’s new ‘Chokka the Quokka’ initiative, where $2 from every Chokka sold will go towards the Rottnest Foundation to support quokka conservation in WA. Thousands of people came to the Island to enjoy the free festivities and entertainment and it was great to see so many families enjoying the day. The kids had a fantastic time!...
